Is Mobile Marketing the Next Big Thing and How Can You Get a Piece of the Pie?

Whether you have used mobile marketing in your online marketing adventure or not, you must have been seeing ads on your smart phone or tablet. Mobile is becoming a red hot marketing channel right now.

We all know that the the digital channel is continuing to grow. Advertising as a whole may not be growing tremendously but growth in the digital space is being fueled by a an increasing exodus from traditional advertising options that are no longer cutting it in the Internet age.

BIA/Kelsey has provided some data about the local space moving forward and it looks like mobile is the big winner. Take a look at the predicted growth of local mobile ad spend through 2016.

Now see how that compares to local spending as a whole….More at Look for Big Local Mobile Growth in Near Future

People are spending increasingly more money through their mobile devices. If you have ever purchased a song or a game on your iPhone, you are part of this increasing trend.

Where is the best opportunity now for us individual work-at-home online marketers to get a piece of the cake? I’d say CPA.

If you are a member of the regular CPA networks such as PeerFly or Maxbounty, just do a simple search “mobile” and a bunch of mobile CPA offers will show up. There are also CPA networks that works solely with mobile offers such as MobAff and YeahMobi.

But what about traffic? How do you get traffic to these mobile offers? well, here’s where some mobile CPC and CPM traffic providers come in handy. Jumptap and Tapit! are both high quality mobile traffic sources.

Now you have the offers and traffic sources. What’s next? Well, sign up with the CPA networks, get some best converting offers, purchase traffic from the traffic providers and drive them to your offer! Simple as that. The next thing would be analyzing the result on ROI, and make adjustments if needed.

Currently I’m waiting to be signed up at one of the above mobile CPA networks and anxious to get my feet wet. I’ll share with you my results and my strategy. Stay tuned!

How about mobile hoeevwr? I was poking around with using OpenX for serving mobile ads, and it can be done. But at the time it certainly wasn't a fluid system for doing so. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to follow up on it. What is the support level for serving mobile devices from OpenX? What's being used in terms of targeting and metrics standardization? There seems to be little of value from the IAB or MMA on the practical side of audience metrics and a consistent framework for describing and delivering targeting.
